No new medical updates this week, which makes it more of a normal week.
All the articles talk about the new normal, the future normal, returning to normalcy, will we ever be normal again. With everything that we are in the midst of, people are working to create special things and moments, all of which are critical in maintaining the psyche needed now.
However, might I suggest a day of normal.
Cereal and peanut butter toast for breakfast. Not eggs, hard or soft boiled, fried or scrambled, omelets and frittatas.
A cup of coffee. No French press or stovetop espresso. No frappa, cappu, itta, or ino. Just pod, button, coffee.
(full disclosure, everything above I have done to change it up a bit)
Maybe do a load of laundry, not full blown laundry day. Just pop in a load cuz you have time.
If you’re WFH, then maybe open a chat window for a minute or two with the coworker you would lean over the wall to chat with were you in the office.
If you’re out and about, the required mask makes it hard to informally socialize, but adding a head nod or small wave to a smiling (but masked) face gets the message across.
I and many others still need to manage our health and safety at a more than normal level, but when you can do the things that you want, or need, to do without considering the pandemic, the election, the social unrest, and whatever else your life has going on, it feels special. But it’s normal.
Ellen still goes to an office, but whether your day ends with family coming home, or simply moving from their home office or home schoolroom to the living room and asking ‘How you’re day was?’. In these times I believe, Nothing Special, is an admirable response.
Stay safe. Be kind
Hi Chuck, good to read about your perspective as always. Yes the elusive “normal”. Not much of that anymore for sure. However I am always amazed by that iconic photograph of the steel workers building the Empire State building eating there sandwiches thousands of feet above ground balancing on a girder. I suppose that is “normal” for them, so I guess we adapt -right?
Anyway, we wish you strength and relaxation and we will get together one day hopefully soon and enjoy a beer together.
With best wishes,
Cliff.
